US Caribbean Maritime

On February 20, 2026, Miami will host the US–Caribbean Maritime and Ports Forum, an event dedicated to maritime and port-related issues between the United States and the Caribbean. Organised by the Atlantic Council through its Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center, the forum will bring together institutional representatives, port authorities, maritime operators and economic stakeholders from across the region.

The stated objective is to facilitate dialogue around the shared challenges facing ports and regional supply chains, at a time when trade flows, infrastructure requirements and regulatory frameworks are evolving.

A platform for US–Caribbean dialogue

According to the organisers, the forum aims to strengthen exchanges between US and Caribbean maritime stakeholders, with a focus on maritime connectivity, port development and regional cooperation.

The Caribbean occupies a strategic position within maritime trade routes linking North America, Latin America and global shipping lanes. Ports in the region play a key role in cargo transit, transshipment activities and the supply of island markets, while also facing structural constraints related to capacity, infrastructure modernisation and climate resilience.

Key themes on the agenda

The programme announced for the event includes discussions centred on several core issues for the maritime and port sector:

  • port infrastructure and modernisation needs
  • maritime and port logistics across the Caribbean region
  • port security and safety considerations
  • public–private cooperation and institutional frameworks
  • port resilience in the face of climatic and operational risks

These topics reflect a regional context characterised by significant investment needs in transport and logistics infrastructure, regularly highlighted by international institutions.

An event aimed at industry professionals

The forum is primarily intended for maritime professionals, port authorities, terminal operators, shipping lines, as well as institutional and financial stakeholders involved in port development across the Caribbean and Latin America.

While it is not positioned as a decision-making body, the event is presented as a forum for exchange and networking, offering participants an opportunity to share perspectives, priorities and experiences related to regional port and maritime challenges.
