Ezeiza Airport launches $110M investment programme to expand capacity and strengthen operations

Aeropuertos Argentina has unveiled a major investment programme of more than US$100 million at Ezeiza International Airport, the country’s primary international aviation gateway, aimed at strengthening operational efficiency, improving passenger experience and expanding cargo capacity. The infrastructure programme reflects the sustained growth in activity at the Buenos Aires hub and the need to adapt airport facilities to increasing traffic and operational requirements.

Located approximately 23 kilometres from Buenos Aires, Ezeiza Airport serves as Argentina’s main international gateway and plays a central role in the country’s connectivity with global markets. With 31 airlines operating flights to 55 international and 35 domestic destinations, the airport handled 12 million passengers in 2025, representing a 5.1% increase compared with 2024. The new investment programme is designed to support this growth while enhancing safety, operational performance and infrastructure capacity.

Airside upgrades to support higher operational capacity

A significant portion of the investment will focus on airside infrastructure. One of the key projects is the construction of a new aircraft apron, known as Platform Golf, which will provide dedicated ramp space for the operation and parking of seven narrow-body aircraft. The new apron is expected to increase operational flexibility during peak traffic periods and improve ground handling efficiency.

The programme also includes the rehabilitation of the airport’s secondary runway (17–35) and the modernization of its intersection with the main runway (11–29). These works aim to improve operational capacity and ensure that the airport’s infrastructure remains aligned with future traffic growth. Additional upgrades include the refurbishment of the runway lighting system, the repaving of Taxiway Alfa, and the construction of new ramp maintenance modules to support airside operations.

Terminal expansion focused on passenger experience

Beyond the airside developments, the programme will also expand passenger facilities. The domestic arrivals terminal will be enlarged by approximately 1,200 square metres, allowing the addition of five new boarding gates, bringing the total number of gates in the terminal to twelve.

The project will also create a 3,500-square-metre pre-boarding area designed to enhance passenger comfort and flow. The new space will incorporate a VIP lounge, additional food and beverage outlets, and a dedicated children’s play area, contributing to a more comfortable and modern passenger experience.

Technology modernisation and biometric-ready systems

As part of the airport’s digital transformation strategy, Aeropuertos Argentina will also undertake a large-scale upgrade of its operational systems. More than 1,700 devices across the terminal will be replaced or modernised, including check-in computers, gate systems, self check-in kiosks, self bag-drop units, security checkpoint equipment, display monitors and passport readers.

The new systems will be compatible with biometric technologies, allowing the airport to integrate advanced passenger processing solutions already being implemented in immigration procedures and further streamline airport operations.

Cargo infrastructure expansion to support logistics operations

The programme also places a strong emphasis on cargo and logistics infrastructure. Aeropuertos Argentina Cargo plans to construct a 12,000-square-metre Single Courier Terminal, designed to enhance the processing capacity for express shipments and e-commerce logistics.

At the same time, the airport’s temperature-controlled export area for perishable goods will be expanded from 4,500 square metres to nearly 7,000 square metres, supporting the transport of sensitive products requiring controlled environments. The project will also include the development of a new internal access road connecting the airport to the Ricchieri Highway, improving traffic circulation within the logistics complex.

Strengthening Argentina’s international aviation gateway

These developments build on a series of improvements already completed at the airport in 2025, including the expansion of the domestic boarding area, new dining and service facilities, the creation of a dedicated Calm Room designed to support passengers on the autism spectrum, as well as upgrades to security and inspection areas and the opening of a new premium VIPClub lounge.

Taken together, the new investment programme reflects Aeropuertos Argentina’s broader strategy to modernise Ezeiza International Airport and reinforce its role as the country’s principal international aviation hub. By combining airside upgrades, passenger facility improvements, technological modernisation and expanded cargo infrastructure, the project aims to ensure that the airport can efficiently accommodate future traffic growth while maintaining high operational standards and service quality.
