D\u00e9cryptage.    <\/em><\/p>\n\n<p>Avec 16,3 millions de visiteurs en s\u00e9jour en provenance des \u00c9tats-Unis en 2023, soit environ la moiti\u00e9 des touristes internationaux accueillis par la Cara\u00efbe, auxquels s&rsquo;ajoutent pr\u00e8s de 3 millions de visiteurs canadiens, l&rsquo;Am\u00e9rique du Nord constitue de loin le principal march\u00e9 \u00e9metteur de la r\u00e9gion. Source : NACO Analytics, rapport NACO\/ACI-LAC, mars 2026.    <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<p>Afin de quantifier cette concurrence, NACO a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 un nouvel indicateur d&rsquo;analyse : le Route Network Overlap Index. Son principe est simple : il mesure le volume total de si\u00e8ges propos\u00e9s vers des destinations extra-carib\u00e9ennes communes \u00e0 deux a\u00e9roports, rapport\u00e9 au nombre total de si\u00e8ges offerts par ces deux plateformes. Plus l&rsquo;indice est \u00e9lev\u00e9, plus les deux a\u00e9roports se disputent le m\u00eame bassin de passagers.  <\/p>\n\n<p>Les r\u00e9sultats publi\u00e9s sont particuli\u00e8rement r\u00e9v\u00e9lateurs. Montego Bay et Aruba pr\u00e9sentent un taux de recouvrement d&rsquo;environ 85 % de leurs r\u00e9seaux extra-carib\u00e9ens. Punta Cana et Montego Bay atteignent 83 %, tandis que Nassau et Bridgetown affichent \u00e9galement un taux de 85 %. Source : Cirium, NACO Analytics, rapport NACO\/ACI-LAC, mars 2026. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Une concurrence aliment\u00e9e par la d\u00e9pendance touristique<\/h2>\n\n<p>L&rsquo;\u00e9tude met en \u00e9vidence un m\u00e9canisme structurel : la plupart des grands march\u00e9s touristiques carib\u00e9ens \u2013 et leurs a\u00e9roports \u2013 se livrent une concurrence directe pour attirer les m\u00eames flux de voyageurs en provenance de la c\u00f4te Est nord-am\u00e9ricaine, avec tr\u00e8s peu de diff\u00e9renciation. Cette logique est \u00e9conomiquement rationnelle. Dans plusieurs petits \u00c9tats insulaires, le tourisme repr\u00e9sente entre 60 % et 80 % du PIB. Antigua-et-Barbuda, Sainte-Lucie et Aruba figurent parmi les \u00e9conomies les plus expos\u00e9es. Dans ces march\u00e9s, attirer davantage de vols depuis l&rsquo;Am\u00e9rique du Nord ou l&rsquo;Europe est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme une priorit\u00e9 \u00e9conomique majeure.<br\/>   <\/p>\n\n<p>Les ressources consacr\u00e9es au d\u00e9veloppement a\u00e9rien et l&rsquo;attention politique se concentrent donc en priorit\u00e9 sur les liaisons les plus r\u00e9mun\u00e9ratrices. Source : NACO\/ACI-LAC, mars 2026.  <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Une connectivit\u00e9 r\u00e9gionale jug\u00e9e \u00ab souhaitable \u00bb, mais non prioritaire<\/h2>\n\n<p>C&rsquo;est dans ce contexte qu&rsquo;un dirigeant du secteur a\u00e9rien carib\u00e9en interrog\u00e9 par NACO r\u00e9sume le dilemme de mani\u00e8re particuli\u00e8rement directe. Selon son t\u00e9moignage, les ressources limit\u00e9es sont orient\u00e9es l\u00e0 o\u00f9 le retour sur investissement est le plus rapide : les liaisons avec les \u00c9tats-Unis, et non n\u00e9cessairement celles reliant les \u00eeles entre elles. <\/p>\n\n<p>Plus largement, les acteurs du secteur interrog\u00e9s dans le cadre de l&rsquo;\u00e9tude indiquent qu&rsquo;ils seraient favorables \u00e0 une am\u00e9lioration de la connectivit\u00e9 intra-r\u00e9gionale, tout en reconnaissant qu&rsquo;elle est g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme un \u00ab nice to have \u00bb plut\u00f4t que comme une v\u00e9ritable priorit\u00e9 strat\u00e9gique pour les a\u00e9roports. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Le pi\u00e8ge du tourisme \u00ab une escale, une \u00eele \u00bb<\/h2>\n\n<p>Cette concurrence est \u00e9galement renforc\u00e9e par la nature m\u00eame du produit touristique carib\u00e9en et par les habitudes des march\u00e9s \u00e9metteurs. Selon les \u00e9tudes de march\u00e9 cit\u00e9es par NACO, le vacancier nord-am\u00e9ricain dispose en moyenne de douze jours de cong\u00e9s par an et r\u00e9alise un seul voyage annuel d&rsquo;environ huit jours. <br\/>La cons\u00e9quence est directe : les visiteurs choisissent g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement une seule destination et y passent l&rsquo;int\u00e9gralit\u00e9 de leur s\u00e9jour.  <\/p>\n\n<p>L&rsquo;offre touristique carib\u00e9enne s&rsquo;est progressivement adapt\u00e9e \u00e0 cette demande. Les complexes all-inclusive et les vols point \u00e0 point se sont impos\u00e9s comme le mod\u00e8le dominant, en offrant des vacances simples, directes et efficaces. Comme le r\u00e9sume un professionnel cit\u00e9 dans l&rsquo;\u00e9tude, les touristes am\u00e9ricains \u00ab n&rsquo;ont pas le temps de faire du island-hopping \u00bb : ils viennent dans la r\u00e9gion pour cinq \u00e0 sept jours et souhaitent passer l&rsquo;ensemble de leur s\u00e9jour au m\u00eame endroit. Dans ces conditions, le r\u00e9seau a\u00e9rien intra-carib\u00e9en demeure peu dense, peu fr\u00e9quent et plus difficile \u00e0 rentabiliser.<br\/>  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Une logique qui s&rsquo;auto-entretient<\/h2>\n\n<p>Le m\u00e9canisme devient ainsi circulaire. La demande touristique nord-am\u00e9ricaine favorise les s\u00e9jours sur une seule \u00eele. Les a\u00e9roports concentrent leurs efforts commerciaux sur les march\u00e9s qui alimentent ce mod\u00e8le. Les compagnies a\u00e9riennes ajustent ensuite leurs r\u00e9seaux en fonction de cette demande dominante. <br\/>Les liaisons intra-r\u00e9gionales restent peu nombreuses, donc co\u00fbteuses, puis insuffisamment utilis\u00e9es par les r\u00e9sidents. Cette faiblesse de la demande locale emp\u00eache \u00e0 son tour le d\u00e9veloppement d&rsquo;un march\u00e9 r\u00e9gional capable de compenser la faible mobilit\u00e9 touristique interinsulaire. La dynamique finit ainsi par s&rsquo;auto-entretenir.     <\/p>\n\n<p>L&rsquo;\u00e9tude de NACO ne reproche pas aux a\u00e9roports de faire des arbitrages rationnels. Elle souligne toutefois que l&rsquo;absence de m\u00e9canismes de contrepoids \u2013 politiques, r\u00e9glementaires ou \u00e9conomiques \u2013 favorise l&rsquo;enracinement de cette logique de duplication.
